Well-proportioned and emitting a beautiful warm light, this cylindrical cocoon pendant has the ultimate 1960s look, featuring an alternating pattern of circles and squares. This cocoon pendant is in very good condition and was made by Goldkant, Germany, in the 1960s. The pearl/silk patina indicates that the lamp was in a NON-SMOKING environment. It will fit perfectly into a Mid-Century Modern, modernist, or minimalist interior. Nota Bene: There are no tears or holes! Dimensions: Diameter: 19 cm, Height: 68 cm. Often attributed to and very close to the creations of Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. In fact, this cocoon was manufactured in Germany by Goldkant Leuchten in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Designer Fritz (Friedel) Wauer was credited by FLOS for developing the technology for spraying self-enveloping foam onto metal frames - similar to how silkworms build their cocoon. This innovation was later adopted by Italian designers at FLOS such as Carlo & Tobia Scarpa, Dino Gavina, and of course Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. This makes these Goldkant models the original precursors of later cocoon pendants such as the FLOS Taraxacum S. Carefully packed for secure shipping!.
