This 1935 Bauhaus étagère is from Czech production and demonstrates the asymmetric stepped composition that characterises the formal vocabulary of classical modernism. The frame consists of chrome-plated steel tube, bent into a horizontal cascading form: four shelf surfaces at different heights, projecting and balanced without a visible axis of symmetry. The glass shelves are original black with a smooth surface and age-appropriate patina. At 125 cm wide and 71 cm in overall height, this Bauhaus étagère is flat and horizontally proportioned. As a chrome steel tube étagère, it works equally well placed on a sideboard or as a standalone display object on the floor. The stepped cascade form creates a sculptural quality in the room that functions in modern interiors as readily as in classical Bauhaus surroundings. No manufacturer documentation present. The black glass shelves show age-appropriate wear and scratches that belong to the original condition of this piece. The chrome-plated steel tube is well preserved. Original Bauhaus objects with such a pronounced cascade geometry are rarely found on the market.
