Antique Japanese desk of the tsukue type – Taisho/Showa period (c. 1910-1940)

Antique Japanese tsukue-style desk with two front drawers, made of solid wood and dated between the end of the Taishō period and the beginning of the Shōwa period, circa 1910–1940. The tsukue was the traditional desk used in Japanese homes for writing, studying, or carrying out administrative tasks. Its compact design allowed it to be easily integrated into domestic spaces. The structure is made of keyaki wood with straight legs and horizontal crossbars ensuring the stability of the whole. This type of construction reflects the functional character of Japanese furniture from the early 20th century. The front features two drawers intended for storing documents, writing instruments, or everyday items. The round wooden handles provide a subtle detail that fits into the understated aesthetic of the piece. The surface shows a natural patina with signs of use, a result of the passage of time.
