This superb pair of vintage red and gold elephant-shaped vases would be a fantastic addition to any home. Place them on your mantelpiece, sideboard, or shelf. You can fill them with flowers or simply leave them as they are, as they are beautiful. Each elephant is adorned with a lovely golden colour and carries on its back a howdah-style "basket" that corresponds to the opening of the vase. The tusks and nails are also gold. The decoration suggests Indian elephants, but the ears hint at African elephants. I haven't been able to find other identical examples of these stunning vases, but I have found some that were smaller and less decorative. I believe these elephants date from the 1940s and are made of plaster, but I cannot quantify this assumption. However, they are rare and beautiful. The elephants are in good vintage condition. They have no chips or cracks, but there are numerous marks on the glaze, which, in my opinion, only adds to their charm. If you would like to see more photos, please feel free to ask. Each elephant measures 19.5 cm (including the howdah). From trunk to tail, they measure about 28 cm long and approximately 11 cm wide. The weight of the pair without packaging is 2 kg. A stunning pair of decorative elephant-shaped vases for your home or as a gift.
