Large oblong stoneware dish made in denmark. Created by danish ceramicist thomas toft in the 1950s or 1960s. Glazed interior and rough textured exterior. The rough dark brown “chamotte” clay on the exterior contrasts with the shiny glaze on the interior of the bowl. It features a hand-painted geometric pattern with botanical inspirations. The colors are different shades of green, brown and black. Thomas toft (1930-2015) established his studio in 1957 in bisserup, denmark, where he lived and worked for 50 years. His works are relatively rare but include vases, containers, bowls, trays and some lamps. The patterns are generally geometric abstractions, sometimes stylized representations of fauna or flora. He often plays with the contrast between a raw coffee-colored chamotte stoneware on the outside and the shiny enamels on the inside of his bowls and trays. The dish is signed on the back with the initials tt. Good condition, no chips or cracks. Only a small spot is visible in the glaze.
