Period: ca. 1940s-1960s. A charming little side table with two drawers resting on cabriole legs. The table's kidney-shaped form, along with the fact that it is also decorated on the back, makes it a rare piece. The top, back, and sides feature beautiful arabesque scrollwork and hand-painted flowers. The drawer fronts are decorated in a more geometric style. The drawers have black metal knobs and are lined with red felt. The table's practical nature means it can be used almost anywhere in the house, and could also serve as a bedside table. The decoration was carved into gesso/stucco, which was then painted primarily with gold and white paints. This typically Florentine technique was used to embellish furniture and other wooden objects during the Renaissance in the 15th century. It regained popularity during the Victorian era, and again from the 1940s to the 1960s. Condition: Good. The drawings and paintings are generally in good condition; there is a small scratch to the paint on the front edge, which is unavoidable with this type of work. Signs of wear. Dimensions: 68 cm high, 48 cm wide, 26.5 cm deep, 5 kg.
