This elegant somno from the French Empire period, also known as a bedside table or pedestal furniture, dates from the early 19th century, around 1805–1820. Made of richly veined mahogany, its cylindrical shape and understated proportions are characteristic of the Napoléon I (Empire) style. The piece is topped with its original white marble surface, which has a fine age-related crack that is stable and unbroken, as well as a small chip on the edge. These marks are consistent with age and use and do not affect the functionality or stability of the piece. Behind the curved door, the interior offers practical storage space with shelves, including an original marble interior shelf. The somno rests on small turned feet and retains its authentic materials and construction. Traditionally used as a bedside table, this somno can also serve as an accent piece, adding character and architectural presence to classic or eclectic interiors.
