Unique glazed ceramic vase by the american ceramic artist betty woodman 1960s. Betty woodman (1930-2018) is recognized as one of the most important voices in postwar american art, having synthesized sculpture, painting, and ceramics in a highly original and immediately recognizable formal vocabulary. She often experimented with the ceramic vessel form in unique ways, eventually using bright colors and joining and interlocking pieces of clay together to create new forms. Her work plays in the territory between high arts and craft and at the borders between painting and sculpture. Woodman’s pieces reside in many museum collections and have been included in solo exhibitions all over the world. Most likely this vase was purchased at a betty woodman exposition at the max protetch gallery in new york, a booklet from this exposition is with it, see the last picture. This exceptional vase is a true piece of art. It is in excellent condition.
