Guillerme and Chambron for Your Home, Set of 4 chairs 1960s

Set of four dining chairs by Guillerme and Chambron for Votre Maison. Curved and profiled backrest. Four legs joined by stretchers on the sides and in the middle. Oak. Original cushions, fabric renewed. Circa 1960. Assembly with dowels. Seat height 51 cm. Their company, Votre Maison, made its mark on the history of French design. Guillerme and Chambron first crossed paths in 1940 in a stalag in East Prussia. As prisoners, they formed a friendship, but the early years after the war separated them. Robert Guillerme, a graduate of the École Boule in 1934, put his talent to work for the Rogier workshops, a prominent firm in the Lille region. Jacques Chambron, a graduate of the École des Arts Appliqués in Reims, owned his own painter-decorator workshop in Paris. In 1948, Chambron and his family left the capital to settle in Lille. The two men, who reunited there, then crossed paths with Emile Darioseq, owner of a cabinetmaking workshop looking for new outlets: Votre Maison was born a year later, in 1949. Guillerme designed the furniture, Chambron took on the sales role by welcoming and advising clients, and the Darioseq workshops handled the manufacturing. Together, they defined a new concept of furnishing. Buffets, tables, and chairs were affordable, sturdy, and authentic (see the student desk model in solid oak and the table with its 6 solid oak and cane chairs). Elaborately worked backs, waxed wood, and thick cushions established the reputation of their armchairs and sofas. With the help of ceramist Boleslaw Danikowski, they combined wood and ceramic tiles: a true success. In the 1970s, Hervé Chambron, Jacques's son, also a graduate of the École Boule, joined Votre Maison and created his own designs upon the retirement of his elders in 1983. The company was liquidated in the 2000s.
