The BR03 sleeper sofa is a characteristic design by Martin Visser for the Dutch furniture manufacturer 't Spectrum and a beautiful example of functional modernism from the 1960s. Visser played an important role in the development of Dutch furniture design after the war. His designs are characterized by clear lines, thoughtful constructions, and a natural combination of form and functionality. This design vision is clearly visible in the BR03. The original black-finished metal frame with its straight, square profiles gives the sofa a strong, architectural appearance. The open construction and sleek lines also provide a spatial character. The construction is not hidden but forms an essential part of the design. The practical aspect has also been carefully worked out. Thanks to the pull-out mechanism, the sofa easily converts from a comfortable seat into a sleeper sofa. A smart solution that fits well with Visser's vision of functional and accessible design, without compromising on aesthetics. This piece has recently been reupholstered with a beautiful green wool mix from Oniro. The rich green shade gives the design a contemporary look and contrasts beautifully with the original black frame. The metal frame remains fully original and very neat, the pull-out mechanism works perfectly. The combination of the original design, characteristic construction, and renewed upholstery makes this BR03 an attractive piece of Dutch vintage design. A practical and comfortable sleeper sofa that also stands out as a seating piece. Country of origin: Netherlands. Manufacturer: 't Spectrum. Designer: Martin Visser. Model: BR03. Period: 1960-1971.
