Baluster vase with handles from the Cerdazur workshop (Monaco), c. 1950-1960. Glazed earthenware. H. 31 cm; W. 20 cm. Weight: 2.5 kg. Made of glazed earthenware, this ornamental piece is typical of Riviera style with its relief decoration, featuring numerous colours enhanced with gold. Seaweed and fish unfold on the body of the piece in shades of green, blue, orange, and burgundy. An original workshop piece, handmade and painted, the vase has an inscription under the base attesting to its place of creation: "197 BPS / Cerdazur / Monaco". This type of production was sold on the French Riviera, particularly in souvenir shops. Monaco's ceramics flourished after the war. While the Principality had been known for its potters since 1893, it was in 1946 that many workshops specialising in this art began to emerge, the most well-known being Azuréart, Cérart, Céraflor, Cerdazur, and Monacéram. Although floral iconography dominates production, marine themes are also found, albeit more rarely, on vases and bowls. Its exuberant and colourful style, often kitsch, is sought after for the decoration of Mid-Century vintage spaces. This production ran parallel to that of the Vallauris workshops, distinguished by pastel colours and pleasing, largely figurative, even naive motifs. The shiny and shimmering aesthetic of this piece makes it a testament to the glory days of the Côte d’Azur during the Trente Glorieuses. ℹ️ Very good overall condition considering its 70 years. There are a few minor defects: wear to the gilding in places and a small chip at the base, which do not detract from its presence and overall aesthetic. The photos allow you to purchase with full knowledge of the facts. 📦 Collection in person preferred: possible in central Paris during the week or in Essonne, in Gif. Occasionally in Quimper. To be defined together.
