Tulip table Knoll Saarinen 1960 white marble

Tulip table, by Eero Saarinen for KNOLL International, made around 1955/1960. Tulip base in white lacquered aluminium marked on the underside "knoll international" and numbered 172-173. Round top in veined white marble with a rim; the top is not the original but a 19th-century top. In very good condition, to note: usage scratches on the base, a few chips on the edge of the marble, a stain on the top in the centre. A superb piece, a must-have of vintage design. The TULIP series was designed in 1955 by Finnish-American designer Eero Saarinen for Knoll: pieces, table and chair, shaped like a flower that stand on a central pedestal, the first of their kind. An undeniably simple and futuristic design that celebrates Eero's work against the "miserable clutter of legs" in furniture. Clean, fast, and careful delivery. Very bulky. 130 X 73cm.
