Antique Japanese storage furniture – Taishō – Shōwa period (c. 1920-1945) Dimensions: Length: 70 cm Depth: 33 cm Height: 88 cm. Style: Taishō Materials and techniques: Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) Place of origin: Japan. Period: Late Taishō Date of manufacture: Circa 1920-1945. Condition: Good. Wear is consistent with age and use. Original Japanese cabinet from the Taishō period, designed as a vertical storage piece for domestic use. Entirely made of Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica), it is distinguished by a construction that is both sturdy and lightweight, with a pronounced grain and a dark, deep patina, characteristic of early 20th-century Japanese interiors. The interior is organised around fixed shelves, providing a clear and functional storage solution for documents, textiles, ceramics, or books. Its compact format and measured design make it a particularly versatile piece, capable of fitting into both contemporary spaces and interiors inspired by Japanese or wabi-sabi aesthetics. During the Taishō period, Japanese furniture evolved towards more practical and contained forms, adapting to smaller living spaces and new domestic dynamics. Cabinets from this era retain traditional craftsmanship techniques while prioritising functionality, clarity of volumes, and formal simplicity. It is in excellent condition, except for the imperfections characteristic of any antique, due to the passage of time. Add a touch of originality to your interior with a unique piece that blends into contemporary style and brings personality to your space. This antique Japanese storage furniture can be combined with one of our wooden bowls or with our available vintage trunks. UNIQUE PIECE.
