This large and elegant polished brass fire set, executed in the manner of the famous Parisian house Maison Jansen, is distinguished by its sculpted pineapple finials — one of the most iconic motifs in the Jansen repertoire. Each of the five accessory handles, as well as the central stand itself, is topped with a carefully cast brass pineapple: the characteristic skin with diamond-shaped decoration, featuring its nodular scales in relief, and the crown of foliage are rendered with precision and vitality. The pineapple, long a symbol of luxury and hospitality in the decorative arts, was a signature motif of Maison Jansen, appearing regularly in their production of fireplace accessories from the 1930s to the 1970s. The stand is elegantly slender, with a conical collar that gathers the tool stems from which they hang with characteristic grace. The five accessories — a poker, a flat-bladed shovel, a brush, and a pair of tongs — are entirely shaped from polished brass, their long and slender profiles emphasising the verticality and refinement of the composition. Dated around 1970, this set reflects the ongoing prestige of the neoclassical vocabulary in French interior furnishings of this period. Founded in Paris in 1880, Maison Jansen had established the pineapple fire set as a widely imitated model, with its creations being reproduced by many quality French workshops wishing to offer their clientele pieces in the Jansen manner. The present set represents this production at a level of quality fully in line with the best examples of the genre.
