Set of four Cab 412 dining chairs by Mario Bellini for Cassina, 1977

The CAB chair is one of the most iconic Italian design chairs of the late 20th century and is part of Cassina’s celebrated I Contemporanei collection. The design is notable for its innovative construction: a steel frame completely covered by a thick saddle leather that is zipped over the structure, creating a sculptural yet comfortable seat. This set features beautiful red saddle leather that has developed a rich natural patina over time, highlighting the quality of the material and the craftsmanship of the piece. The leather shows attractive signs of age and use consistent with vintage examples, giving the chairs strong character. These chairs are early production examples. As confirmed by Cassina, pieces from this early period were typically not yet marked, which is consistent with this set. The underside still retains the characteristic canvas base typical for early CAB chairs.
