His father, Gino, was a fisherman on the Arno, and his mother, Amelia, made bottles. Beppe Serafini was a professional ceramist and painter; He began painting at a very young age, perhaps driven by despair over his body, which, following a fall from his bicycle on the way to school, had grown disproportionately large. From then on, everyone called him Beppegrasso. His family's poverty prevented him from buying paint, so he invented his own painting technique. He was discovered in 1967 by Antonio Possenti and joined the Naive movement. The most significant event in his artistic career was undoubtedly the prestigious exhibition at the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence in 1976. Milan, Viareggio, Bologna, Frankfurt, Siena, and Nice are just some of the cities that have hosted exhibitions of his works.
