Impressive pair of French Louis XV style finely chiseled gilt bronze andirons. These Rocaille ormolu chenets are extremely decorative, each depicting a lion’s head crafted in relief surrounded by rich Rococo decorations such as acanthus leaves, rosettes, pierced oval, and exuberant scrollwork. The base is intricately detailed, sculpted with gadrooned foliage and scroll design. Original curled black wrought iron log holders behind. High-end artworks with both practical and decorative functions to protect priceless rugs and flooring from rolling logs but with plenty of style. Extremely good overall condition, minor wear due to age and use, beautiful gilding, quite large convenient scale. Measures: Height 50 cm, Width 32 cm, Depth 22 cm. Provenance: Private collection of a noble lady in principality of Monaco. Previously sold at Christie's auction, Nov. 20, 2002.
