Two plates full of history and softness, with the simple charm of northern country houses. A superb pair of antique plates in white ironstone, signed Faïencerie d'Onnaing – France. Their frieze decoration, finely stenciled in cobalt blue and carmine red and slightly raised, illustrates the elegant productions of the early 20th century (circa 1900–1920). This motif, rare and almost impossible to find today, evokes the family tables of yesteryear and the understated refinement of Onnaing tableware. The Onnaing faience factory, founded in 1821 in northern France, was one of the most renowned of its time. Combining folk art and meticulous industrial production, it has left its mark on the history of French earthenware with the finesse of its ironstone and the quality of its colorful decorations. Ideal for a poetic table setting or hung as a wall decoration in an authentic style. Very beautiful vintage condition, with patina of age and micro-scratches from wear: the two plates have a soft and even patina, without chips or cracks, and retain the brilliance of their enamel. Diameter 23 cm. A rare and characterful pair, perfect for a French cottage atmosphere.
