This antique pine console features a long continuous top supported by four angled legs reinforced by horizontal crossbars. It originates from northern China, dating from the end of the Qing dynasty, where pine was crafted using a traditional mortise and tenon joinery. The console with angled legs—a popular variant of Chinese altar furniture—served in northern China as a worship support in the main room, an exhibition table, or a long console against the wall. The A-frame structure with horizontal crossbars belongs to the rural vernacular style of northern China, devoid of carvings or drawers, focusing solely on structural expression. The body is constructed from solid pine. The top is a long, uncut board, with its natural ends visible. The legs extend at an open angle to the ground, reinforced at each end by a pair of horizontal crossbars that stabilise the whole. The peripheral crossbar is smooth and rests beneath the top. The joinery is traditional Chinese mortise and tenon, without screws. Details. Dimensions: Length 224 cm – Depth 45 cm – Height 79 cm. Style: Qing Dynasty.
