Authentic French antique chest of drawers, made of solid walnut, dating from the early 19th century (circa 1800–1820), in provincial Empire style. This piece of furniture features entirely traditional construction, predating industrialisation: • Hand-cut dovetail joints, visible and irregular, • Solid wood structure (no plywood), • Back and interiors made of old secondary wood (oak/coniferous), • Original natural patina, never stripped. The walnut front showcases a beautiful grain, warm and deep, typical of regional productions from the South-East/Centre-East of France (Dauphiné – Burgundy – Rhône Valley). Style & period. • Period: Empire/Consulate – early Restoration. • Estimated dating: 1800–1820. • Likely origin: regional French workshop (provincial furniture, not Parisian) The piece is distinguished by: • Its massive turned columns, • Its balanced proportions, • The sobriety of the decor, characteristic of quality utilitarian furniture from this period. Fittings & drawers. • Four original drawers, all present. • Old period locks. • Brass lock plates with neoclassical decoration (antique urn) • Key not provided (functional old key easily replicable by a specialised locksmith) Condition. • Healthy and stable furniture. • Wood free from active insect attack. • Wear consistent with age (softened edges, slight signs of time) • No modern elements added. Authentic piece, not a reproduction, ready to be used or kept in a collection.
