1970s Czechoslovak Orange Clamp Lamp by NAPAKO

A remarkable adjustable work lamp produced by NAPAKO in Czechoslovakia during the 1970s. Mounted directly to the edge of a desk by its original clamp, the lamp rises on two slender chrome rods before extending horizontally across the working surface. The long articulated arm and adjustable joints make it possible to vary the height, position and direction of the light. Its rounded orange metal shade creates a vibrant focal point, balanced by the tall black ribbed housing and the precise chrome structure. The result is practical, graphic and wonderfully expressive: part working tool, part kinetic sculpture. The lamp is documented in a period Czechoslovak catalogue, where it appears as light no. 1. It is commonly attributed to Josef Hůrka, the influential designer responsible for numerous NAPAKO lights, although we have not found definitive archival confirmation for this particular model. The lamp retains age-related marks and traces of previous use, visible in the photographs, which contribute to its authentic vintage appearance.
