Two fine earthenware cups, probably from french or english production of the 19th century (mid or late). The blue decoration on a light background is typical of underglaze printed decorations, a technique widely used from the 1830s to the 1850s in europe. The frieze and arabesque motifs recall the neo-renaissance or neo-gothic styles, which were popular in ceramic decoration in the second half of the 19th century. Very nice pattern on the bottom of each cup. No stamps. Possible origins: either france: faïenceries of creil and montereau, gien, digoin, or sarreguemines produced this type of piece. Or england: manufactures such as staffordshire, spode or wedgwood also produced similar services. Good condition for their age: patinated, with cracks and slight browning of the glaze (typical of age and use). A hairline crack is very barely visible and only on the exterior. Height: 6 cms diameter: 6.5 cms.
