Rare pair of sculptural vases in solid glass designed by Timo Sarpaneva for Iittala, model Jääpuikko (“Icicle”), produced in Finland between 1958 and 1966. These iconic models of post-war Finnish design feature an extremely pure conical silhouette, combined with a subtle gradient of deep blue immersed in a significant mass of clear crystal. The elongated and minimalist shape evokes an ice stalactite, a recurring theme in Sarpaneva's organic work in the late 1950s. They have a very beautiful decorative and sculptural presence, particularly the large model of 41 cm, which is now sought after by collectors of Scandinavian glass and modernist design. Both pieces are signed at the tip under the base: “Timo Sarpaneva – Iittala”. Technical details: Designer: Timo Sarpaneva. Publisher: Iittala. Model: Jääpuikko / Icicle. Country: Finland.
