Postmodern umbrella stand, 1980s

A rare umbrella stand with a language and materiality of postmodern design. A postmodern design. The combinations of materials and striking shapes are particularly notable. The sculptural curved umbrella stand in blackened steel can be seen as a reference to the designs of Carl Auböck. It consists of a continuous rod whose curves form three rings serving as supports. A lens-shaped wooden base serves as the foundation for this complex design. The umbrella stand is mounted on the base, offset by silver metal balls. An aluminium bowl with a stepped edge serves as a support for the tips of the umbrellas, prominently positioned at the centre of the design. The umbrella stand is in very good condition with signs of wear and patina.
