Brass & Teak Three-Light Candelabra Floor Lamp — Scandinavia, 1940s/1950s

There is a warmth to this lamp that photographs struggle to fully capture. Three gently curved brass arms rise from a central teak-and-brass stem, each cradling a tulip-shaped shade in ribbed opaline glass — and when lit, those shades glow with exactly the kind of amber softness that modern lighting endlessly tries to recreate and rarely achieves.The combination of warm-toned teak, polished brass and ribbed opaline glass is a hallmark of Scandinavian lighting from the late 1940s and early 1950s, a period when Swedish manufacturers like ASEA and Böhlmarks produced some of the most refined domestic lighting in Europe. This lamp fits squarely within that tradition: the torpedo-shaped teak finial at the crown of the stem is a particularly elegant detail, as is the generous circular brass and teak base raised on small decorative feet. No maker’s marks have been found, but the quality of construction and the material vocabulary leave little doubt as to its origin.Condition is very good for its age. The opaline shades are all intact — one has minor paint chips to the top edge, but no glass damage. The teak stem is in good order, and the brass and teak base carries two small watermarks and light wear to the brass rings. The lamp has been completely rewired with period-appropriate twisted gold cable, new fittings and a new plug, so it is fully ready to use.
