Set of 6 vintage Limoges porcelain plates with fish design.

Set of six flat plates made of Limoges porcelain, Ancel manufacture, probably from the second half of the 20th century. Round shape with slightly scalloped edges, gold rim and fine decorative frieze on the wing. Each plate features a different illustration in the centre depicting a pair of freshwater fish amidst aquatic vegetation: pike, perch, trout, carp, roach, and presumably chub. Detailed polychrome decoration in shades of green, blue, brown, orange, and red, on a white background. The marking on the reverse states "Genuine Porcelain ANCEL-LIMOGES". Tableware decorated with fish, game, or hunting scenes belongs to an important tradition of French table arts in the 20th century, particularly for services intended for fish and game meals. The set can today be used as tableware or mismatched with simpler white dishes; the figurative and naturalistic character of the six decorations also works well for wall presentation. Dimensions: height 2.5 cm; diameter 23.5 cm. Total weight: 4 kg. Generally in good condition, with slight signs of use and some wear to the gilding due to age.
