A vintage sauce boat on a matching stand adorned with a rocaille decoration in shades of red on an ivory background. The shape, widely flared with its two scroll handles, follows the design codes of the 19th-century table service intended for grand occasions. The printed decoration, featuring beaded friezes and repeated rocaille motifs around the edge, harmoniously dresses the piece as well as its matching oval stand, in a characteristic red hue of this model. The base bears the mark "Flora Rocaille, B. & Cie, C. & M.", for Creil and Montereau. This factory, born from the merger in 1840 of the pottery works of Creil and Montereau, was one of the most renowned in France in the 19th century — famous enough to be mentioned by Flaubert in L’Éducation sentimentale. A few small chips are to be noted on the underside of the sauce boat and its dish.
