Antique plate in fine faience signed hb quimper, dating from the 1930s, hand-decorated with a portrait of a Breton man in traditional costume. This motif is rare; this Breton can be found but with a hat without a ribbon or without the white triangles on the edge of the hat. The central figure is depicted frontally, wearing a wide hat with black ribbons, with a deep blue underbrim – an original detail that catches the eye. The rim is decorated with the traditional stylised flowers typical of Quimper, framed by a double brown border quite rare for this period. Ivory background and simple shape without a scalloped edge, characteristic of pre-war productions. Handwritten stamp hb quimper rr 176, decoration entirely hand-painted. Diameter: 23.5 cm. Very good overall condition, no chips, shiny glaze. Some signs of use related to age: a hairline crack underneath not visible when the plate is placed down. A piece full of character for collectors or lovers of authentic Breton pottery.
