This antique cup is made of blue opaline and is signed Portieux. This "fair opaline" was a cup for holding cigars and cigarettes. Adorned with a bead decoration, it is the "Gothic" model featured in the Portieux catalogue of 1914. Dating from the late 19th century or very early 20th century, these pressed-moulded opalines were sold at fairs or popular markets. It can serve various purposes such as a pocket tray, cigarette holder, ring holder, cup, glass, or small bulb vase. In generally good condition, I note small chips on the edge, as well as firing defects: fine lines inside and marbling in the colour. Signed Portieux, it measures 7 cm in diameter and 11 cm in height.
