This ceramic vase features a hand-painted floral decoration of great finesse. The colors are soft: a fir green on a speckled sea green background. The shape of the vase is harmonious. Everything in this vase indicates a mastered craftsmanship that pursues the same objective: to create a soothing object. Soothing but not perfect… in the japanese wabi sabi trend, the art of the imperfect. Thus, the thickness of the enamel is not the same everywhere, very light or even absent on the edge of the neck of the vase or near the base. Slightly yellow circular traces seem to be due to a difference in the composition of the clay used. The speckled sea green color is absent in several areas at the neck, it looks like the marks of the artist's fingers. Likewise, the ceramic has some scratches that show through under the enamel and that could easily have been faded before enameling. All this raises questions! For my part, I think that these "flaws" are intentional! And the signature also raises questions. It is indeed signed gabet. I found some ceramics with the same signature where the name of hélène gabet is mentioned. Hélène gabet is known for having created decorations for the longwy earthenware factory famous for its enamels in the 50s and 60s. She was also a enhancer there. We do not know if she continued to work with ceramics afterwards (she died in 2016). Some elements point in this direction, and in particular that hélène gabet did indeed create japanese decorations for longwy in which we sometimes find plants reminiscent of those represented on this vase. But for the moment no formal proof... Investigation to be continued therefore; ) apart from these original defects, this vase is in good general condition, no cracks or chips, but has cracks on the enamel, clearly visible on the inside and some marks or stains, of origin or use. It measures 23.5 cm in height, approximately 13.5 cm in maximum diameter.
