Superb and authentic decorative ceramic plate attributed to Yvon ROY (Vierzon), a famous French ceramist from the Mid-Century period (1950s). This rare piece perfectly illustrates the artist's unique style, characterised by clean and poetic forms. It depicts a stylised water bird amidst reeds, offering a magnificent contrast between a very soft pastel background and a satin glaze. Characteristics and technical details: Technique: Remarkable sgraffito work (hand-made incisions in the black glaze to reveal the underlying light colour) creating the patterns of the bird's neck and plumage. Border: Rim decorated with a geometric frieze of white arches. Reverse: Presence of three marks from kiln supports, typical of the art pottery of the time. Condition: Very good overall vintage condition with a well-glossed glaze. Aesthetic of this post-war ceramic. An ideal collector's piece for fans of 50s ceramics, suitable for display or hanging on the wall.
