Carved wooden duck cup – Nordic folk art – 19th century

Evocative of a naive and utilitarian bestiary, this carved wooden bowl takes the form of a stylized duck, whose beak extends one of the handles. Entirely hand-carved, it features delicate geometric patterns engraved all over the belly and the back handle, reminiscent of Scandinavian or Finnish craft traditions. This warm piece combines popular know-how and clean lines, which can be used as a pocket emptier, decorative bowl or collector's item. A small circular hallmark can be seen under the base.
