Exceptional oval dining table or centre table from the Directoire / Empire period (early 19th century), made of solid mahogany with high-quality craftsmanship. The centrepiece of this solid mahogany table is its remarkable architectural base, featuring four tapered columns adorned with rounded stop flutes, connected by a deeply curved X-shaped stretcher (63 x 63 cm). At its centre, this stretcher is topped with a circular medallion sculpted in a ring (dimensions 32 x 32 cm). The finishes are superb, with fine longitudinal parallel mouldings carved directly into the wood and carefully crafted square connection blocks at the base of each column. This table can be used as a dining table (seating 4 to 16) or serve as a prestigious centre table / display table to enhance a grand entrance or a characterful living room.
