Antique Folk Art Painted bridal chest 1790

Large and weathered painted bridal chest from southern Germany. The chest has a very rustic appearance and shows plenty of character. It is primarily painted in green and red colours with floral decorations in the panels. The paint is quite worn, giving the whole piece a highly decorative look. The chest is in good but used condition. There are occasional old woodworm traces, which have of course been checked and treated. In the past, it was customary to give bridal furniture like this as a wedding gift to the couple. These pieces were later placed on the farm in a show room that was only rarely used for important guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history.
