Antique candlestick (or candle holder) in solid bronze (or very heavy brass), dating from the second half of the 19th century (Napoleon III period). It is made in a pure Neo-Renaissance style, inspired by Italian models from the 16th century. The square base, very architectural, is adorned on its four sides with magnificent masks (stylised grotesque faces), emerging from scrolls of foliage and floral motifs. This powerful and detailed decoration is also found on the shaft and the candle holder. The object has a very beautiful original patina, "matte gold", with traces of verdigris in the recesses, attesting to its age. It is traditionally assembled with a central threaded rod and a square nut, visible under the hollow base. It has a beautiful resonance of metal, typical of high-quality bronze. In very good vintage condition. The bronze is sound and the assembly is solid. Please note: remnants of old wax and natural green oxidation inside the candle holder (candle receptacle). Sold as is, not cleaned to preserve its historical patina.
