Very nice glass globe. The blown glass is in perfect condition and the black wooden base brings a real touch of modernism. Dimensions: depth 19, 50cm / width 32cm / height 43cm. Originally, glass domes made it possible to put clocks under a bell to protect them from dust. It also made it possible to bring a more pleasant sound when they were ringing. Towards the middle of the 19th century, clocks gained in innovation and the glass globe on its base no longer had any use... No one knows how the tradition came about, but the clock cover became an ideal object to protect the bride's crown or bouquet. It was therefore offered by the family on the wedding day to welcome the flowers on the fireplace or in the room of the spouses. And today. It's up to you to imagine what you want... Many florists put self-sufficient plants in it for example. Slip a string of lights, the glass and its history will do the rest.
