Important desk with burl and marquetry.
Elegant and important bureau with burl wood, featuring a very beautiful decorative quality and a balanced architecture inspired by neoclassicism. The front is organised around a central drawer, flanked by two slightly curved cabinets, each opening with two large drawers. The facades are highlighted by fine inlays and adorned with remarkable figurative medallions in light wood on a dark background, representing ancient characters. The bureau rests on eight tapered legs finished with metal caps. The wide top is covered with green leather decorated with gold tooling, providing a generous writing surface. An interesting feature is that the piece has two side pull-outs, allowing for a significant increase in the work surface. The various drawers offer substantial storage capacity and retain their lock entries and pull rings. A particularly decorative bureau, notable for the richness of its burl, generous proportions, and elegant decor inspired by antiquity. Period: 19th century Style: neoclassical Materials: burl wood, marquetry, green leather, metal fittings Condition: good overall condition with signs of use and minor wear consistent with age, particularly on the leather.
