We are delighted to offer this highly sought-after restored Victorian bookcase dating from around 1860-1880, made of pine and oak, with country-style drawers at the base, based on the original design by Samuel Pepys from 1666, forming part of a larger set. This bookcase is part of a set measuring exactly 10 metres wide. It is a unique piece. This sale concerns only the listed item. These mid-19th century bookcases are handcrafted by a master craftsman. Each piece of wood has been hand-cut. These bookcases are historically significant, with the originals located at the Samuel Pepys Library at Magdalene College, University of Oxford, as well as at the Victoria and Albert Museum. The piece offers ample storage space. It has been restored, including deep cleaning, waxing, and hand polishing. The shelves and glass appear to be original. New keys will be made before shipping. Purchasing a piece of this size is a true investment as it is an important antique piece that can accommodate several personal libraries. The dimensions are Height: 286.5 cm (209.5 cm for the upper part only, base 77 cm), Width: 225.5 cm at its widest, Depth: 53.5 cm at the base.
