Art deco vase, crystal, Poland, 1930s

A vase from the 1930s, made of crystal at the Józefina Glassworks in Lower Silesia, presents the characteristic harmony of form and proportion of the art deco style. The body, with a spherical, slightly bulbous shape, runs from a stable, faceted base to a wide, flared collar. The glass is finished with a high gloss and features a distinct, vertical, grooved cut that rhythmically leads the eye to the edges of the vessel. The rim is finished with a geometric, serrated edge, a consistent reference to the art deco language. In the lower part, there is a subtle amethyst tone – a detail typical of this factory's crystals from the interwar period. The surface has no chips or cracks; the original gloss and finish have been preserved. The condition is very good – the vase shows no visible signs of use. This form echoes the era that valued geometry and precision but did not reject subtle effects of light and colour. The precision of the vertical cuts and the clarity of the material reflect the spirit of modernism, where light and structure coexisted without decorative excess – every reflection in the glass brings out the architectural order and energy of the 1930s. The subtle purple at the bottom, like a misty memory of a bygone era, completes the vessel with a nostalgic yet expressive character. This vase can be combined with other glass objects in subdued, pastel colours – from milky white to delicate blue – to emphasise its transparency and geometric silhouette. It will work well as a soloist on a veneered chest of drawers or a coffee table in an art deco or early modern office. In combination with polished metal or minimalist ceramics, it will also introduce a dynamic, precise accent to eclectic interiors or modern reinterpretations of the 1930s style.
