Art Deco serving cutlery / La Samaritaine

A set of Art Deco serving cutlery (for leg of lamb and salad) in its original case. The metal parts are forged steel, the knife blade is stainless steel, and the handles are horn (some have cracks – see photos). The screw thread on the leg of lamb handle is functional. The ferrules are made of metal tarnished by the last 100 years, decorated with scrolls and thistle flowers on a guilloché background. Length of the cutlery: Salad serving: 27.5 cm. Leg of lamb handle: 20.5 cm. Fork: 27 cm. Knife: 32 cm. The cardboard case, covered in brown crocodile-effect paper with a gold border, shows significant wear to the decoration. A sticker on the back of the box appears to date the purchase to La Samaritaine department store in December 1918. Dimensions of the case: 36 X 22 X 4 cm - weight: 952 g.
