Italian valley. Size: 38 X 49 cm (including frame) Oil on board. A beautifully textured and expressive modernist style landscape composition, painted in oil onto canvas and dated 1967 on reverse. This atmospheric composition presents a garden setting within an italian landscape, with a view of rolling hills in the backdrop. The artist has thoughtfully chosen not to depict realistic details, and there is a strong focus on colour and brushstrokes. A muted earthy colour palette has been used, instilling a gentle and soothing quality. The artist has also applied energetic swathes of colour, leaving a beautiful texture with areas of impasto – where the paint has been applied thickly such that it stands proud from the surface.
