Magnificent work by the painter Rodolfo Marma titled "Side of Notre-Dame", 1978. Original work – Oil on plywood – Rodolfo Marmaioli (known as Marma), Florence 1923 – Florence 1998. Dimensions with frame: 73 X 63 cm; painting: 50 X 40 cm. He was born in 1923 in the Santa Croce district of Florence, where he attended the courses at the Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of Ugo Capocchini, graduating in 1948. Parallelly, he frequented the studio of Emanuele Cavalli. In 1954, in Florence, Marisa was born, his only and beloved daughter. A work by Rodolfo Marma. From 1956 to 1958, he lived and worked in New York, a city he returned to later. His correspondence from his years in America is particularly interesting: it shows his love for his hometown and the nostalgia he felt for it, just as the letters exchanged with his friends Vasco Pratolini and Primo Conti, as well as with his young daughter. In the "generous land of America", a day was dedicated to him in 1965, the "Marma's Day", while between 1967 and 1972, he mainly engaged in exhibitions in Florence. Marma was also a reader and illustrator of books, notably *Il giardino del cavaliere* by Mario Mattolini (ed. Mori, Florence, 1963) and *Quando Firenze era capitale* by Marcello Vannucci (ed. Bonechi, 1975). His works are part of public and private collections in Europe and the USA, including the White House in Washington and the museum of San Antonio, Texas. In Florence, his paintings are present at the Gallery of Modern Art in the Pitti Palace and at the museum of the Oblates complex. He died in Florence on June 24, 1998. He is buried at the Porte Sante cemetery in Florence.
