Beautiful statue, sculpture of a lioness, made for de fenix aardewerk, south africa, 1990s, signed at the bottom by the artist cm. This statue is made of raku earthenware, decorated with a colorful and abstract pattern that is carved, the whole is glazed. Works by de fenix are very collectible, this is a nice copy to supplement or start your collection! Raku firing is an originally japanese technique in which the glaze of a workpiece crackles. First an image is glazed. It is then brought very quickly to a temperature of approximately 1000 degrees. The workpiece is exposed to the outside air. Due to the rapid cooling, the glaze will show crackles. The workpiece is then placed in a sawdust barrel. The sawdust ignites and produces smoke. The smoke soaks into the crackle. In perfect condition, no cracks, breaks or chips, check the photos for more details! Dimensions: lwh 22x7x12cm. Weight: 0.719kg.
