Old sandstone lime pot with brown lid, origin from Thailand. It still contains pieces of the lime paste that was used for traditional betel quid. Typical of productions from the Khmer era of the 11th-13th centuries. It is here in the shape of a monkey on one side and a crocodile on the other. The decorations have been both modeled and chiselled and contribute to creating ambiguity between the man/animal figures and the intermingling of the monkey and the crocodile. The stylized character and warm aspect of the material make it a timeless and universal object. A true object-sculpture, it reminds us of rock art or even contemporary artists like Miquel Barcelo. Height 16 cm - width 10 cm - depth 9 cm.
