Five stoneware plates by Francisco Pereira, Puisaye. Diameter 23.2 cm. Height 2.3 cm. A Portuguese ceramist born in the village of Oliveira near Barcelos in the Minho region. From a long line of potters, Francisco began working in the family workshop at the age of seven. In 1972, Francisco Pereira was recruited by Roger Jacques. Francisco was chosen for his consistent work on large pieces. He continued to work in this region, developing a diverse and refined production of utilitarian and decorative stoneware. Although influenced by the daily work of the potters of Saint-Amand, his work is distinctive and personal. Francisco experiments with new textures, matte and glossy glazes, and layering techniques. He has collaborated with, among others, Robert Héraud & Annie Maume, and Jeanne and Norbert Pierlot.
