This very beautiful statue of Christ in biscuit (unglazed porcelain fired twice) has many advantages: the impressed mark underneath leaves no room for doubt, it is a biscuit created by Mauger Henri, with the M&P mark referring to Mauger Henri and his associate Pezé. Mauger Henri was the son of Pierre-Henri Mauger, the founder of the company with Louis-Xavier Letu in 1863 in l'Isle d'Adam. The company manufactured porcelain doll heads for Huret but is mainly recognised for the production of religious statues in biscuit for about 30 years. Therefore, this statue can be dated between 1863 and 1890. The company's mark was successively M&l (or L&M), then M&F for Mauger and sons, and then M&P for Mauger and Pezé. Its second advantage is that this statue is larger than those sometimes found; it measures 27.5 cm in height with its beautifully crafted pedestal. Finally, it is in very good condition: neither cracked, chipped, nor even a nick! Just two or three small marks on the hair at the back and a few small original fissures. All these elements make it a rarity! It measures 27.5 cm in height, 10.5 cm in width, and 10 cm in depth at the pedestal.
