Game table in console form, Napoleon III period (circa 1860–1870) Rosewood, satinwood and rosewood, marquetry of stained woods, ornamentation in chiselled and gilded bronze. Dimensions: H. 76 cm – W. 91 cm – D. 91 cm. This convertible game table illustrates the refinement and decorative virtuosity of Parisian furniture during the Second Empire. With a curved shape, it rests on four richly ornamented cabriole legs adorned with chiselled and gilded bronzes, featuring acanthus leaf motifs, hooves, masks, and oval-shaped ornaments highlighting the lines of the structure. The marquetry decoration, executed with particular care, combines rosewood, satinwood, and rosewood in a symmetrical composition of scrolls, floral garlands, and shaped frames. The top, featuring a central decoration depicting a lively landscape with architecture and a cherub, is set in a revisited rococo style, typical of Napoleon III's taste for referencing 18th-century styles. When opened, the top reveals a green felt playing surface bordered by delicate floral marquetry. This functional duality, elegant console or entertainment table, perfectly illustrates the bourgeois art of living of the Second Empire, balancing comfort and ostentation. French work, Parisian, from the years 1860–1870. Old restorations. In good condition. Certificate of authenticity and suitable delivery.
