I am offering a very beautiful original watercolour by Ray Perraud (1895–1986), dated 1933, executed on genuine Arches paper. The work depicts a spring landscape of great softness. A flowering orchard, a row of cypress trees, a tall bell tower, and an ancient village, with a slightly misty mountain range in the background. On the back, a handwritten note indicates Risou 1947, which most likely refers to the Risou massif, located between the Drôme and the Hautes-Alpes, a region renowned for its orchards and clear light. Ray Perraud (1895–1986) was a French watercolourist of the 20th century, known for his sensitive and luminous landscapes. A regionalist artist, he was particularly attached to the reliefs of south-eastern France, with orchards, perched villages, cypress trees, and mountains making up a large part of his work. His work regularly appears on the art market, where it is appreciated for the finesse of his palette and the mastery of his line. Perraud preferred Arches paper, the medium of choice for professional watercolourists, which gives his works great stability and a beautiful quality of execution. Antique wooden frame with a period gilded moulding.
