Superb pair of carved wooden sculptures decorated with winged griffins in openwork high relief. Scaly body, curled tail, finely detailed wings, open mouth. A remarkable and very expressive piece of sculpture. Dark stained wood, beautiful antique patina. Mounted on a moulded base with steps. Slight signs of wear consistent with the age of the pieces. Characterful decorative pieces, ideal for placing on a fireplace, a bookshelf, or at the head of a bed. Sold as a pair. Condition: Good condition — antique patina, signs of use.
