B1000-32r10d. The dishes told to the boats are very present in the mediterranean since antiquity and then in the middle ages. One of the oldest models dating from the tenth century was discovered in bahnassa in egypt, it is currently in the cairo museum (inv 7900). The iconography of the dish that I present to you is also totally similar to those made of siliceous ceramics from iznik. This city has been using this décor since the sixteenth century. We will also note andalusian productions of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. It would seem likely that an ottoman ceramic painter came to settle in fez in the eighteenth century, introducing this type of production. This iconography can be considered particular in countries governed by the movement of sunni islam which prohibits the representation of things and living beings. If this theme will still survive in time, it will continue to be accompanied by other more conforming sets; interlacing, festoons, acanthus leaves, rinses, stylized kufic letters etc. The potters of fez made their own dye oxides and jealously kept them a secret. They used a maximum of five colors: blue, yellow, brown, green, all against a background of white enamel. In 1853 we will note a change of blue, from a cobalt blue with nickel, we passed to cobalt blue without nickel, this had the effect of obtaining a more marked blue, late nineteenth a second evolution of blue will give an even more vivid result. The proximity of algeria and the conquest of it favored the arrival in france in the nineteenth century of this type of dishes which was quickly very sought after by collectors. Dish in earthenware terracotta, natural cooking defects (withdrawals), we will note a slight ginning on the edge. Three traces of pernettes on the bottom of the dish and under the heel (cooking stacking). Cracks of enamel due to time. Piece xviiie of very good quality.
